Art Over Algorithms.
Athens is an Audience Town.
Streaming metrics and executive algorithms have isolated the viewer. Communal cinema is under threat. But Athens has always marched to its own beat.
In our first three years, audiences aged 16 to 68 filled historic rooms like Ciné and the Morton Theater. When we screen a movie, our audience stays for 40 minutes of questions, joins visiting directors across the street, and welcomes visiting artists with radical warmth. The Automatic Film Society exists to make sure this communal screen endures.
