After their stolen truck runs out of fuel, Carter and his little sister Zoe must walk to the nearest gas station in the dead of night. While Zoe is preoccupied with a pocket radio that has no signal, a police officer, Jeff, arrives. Panicked, Carter discreetly gives Zoe a gun to protect herself, but when Jeff recognizes them as the sheriff’s children, they’re forced to drive back their truck with him. In the car, Zoe narrowly pulls the trigger on Jeff, only interrupted by their father, Earl, waiting for them at their truck. Once Jeff leaves, Earl viciously beats Carter for running away, and Zoe does the only thing she can to protect her brother. In the end, Zoe’s radio plays one last message.
