Workshop – The Art of Short Filmmaking w/ Oscar-Winning Producer Damon Russell
What makes a short film actually work—and why do so many miss the mark?
The workshop kicks off with a special screening of the Academy Award–winning short film, Curfew. Following the film, Oscar-winning producer Damon Russell skips the traditional lecture format in favor of a practical, real-world framework for short filmmakers.
Rather than walking through generic theory, Damon breaks down what short films are uniquely good at, the repeated mistakes he sees filmmakers make, and how to execute a project built around a single compelling idea. Whether you’re working with a micro-budget or a full crew, this session focuses on how to maximize your film’s narrative and visual impact. The second half of the workshop opens up into an interactive conversation and audience Q&A, giving attendees direct access to discuss their own projects and ideas.
